Andrea was born in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia, in 1972. When he was 18 some photos he took of the Milosevic protests in Belgrade were published and seeing them drove him to seriously pursue photography. He studied photography in Brussels for three years, began to cover his journalist father’s work and then moved into fashion photography.
He began in fashion photography with an obsession for the ideals of beauty and perfection – he creates an ambience based on shapes, light and texture. He has described his work as a continuous search for something that is ‘in the air’, he’s not trying to represent reality but to filter it. The constant need to move and evolve are characteristics of the fashion world and that’s reflected in photography.
For him beauty is something that can come in any form or shape and provokes a reaction, which for him is the fun element as not everyone will react in the same way; it is unreachable but the challenge is in trying to make it attainable. And fashion is a means to define beauty, it enables us to advance through a constantly changing world and gives us a protective camouflage.
Andrea is based in Brussels but travels all over the world, shooting for clients that include Vogue, Flaunt, Harpers Bazaar, Wallpaper, Gloss, Madame Figaro and TANK magazines, as well as advertising clients Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Guerlain, Swarowski, Nike, Lanvin, L’Oreal, Longchamps and Canon.
